Return to Work Programs
At Empower DFW, we understand that patients need a little extra help to safely transition back to full-duty work. We offer several specialized programs that help fill the gap between injury and work. Each patient works with a team of doctors who specialize in getting them back to their full capacity as safely as possible. Each program is unique to the patient and their job. We utilize a variety of equipment to simulate job activities to make sure each employee is capable of performing all aspects of their regular duties
Work Conditioning Program
Work conditioning physical rehabilitation programs address the physical issues of flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and work-related function for a successful return to work.
Work conditioning programs:
- Focus on strengthening and endurance
- May include work-related activities
- Sometimes precedes work-hardening
Work Hardening Program
This program is focused on assisting the injured worker to return to the job while minimizing the risk of re-injury. Work-hardening addresses the issues of productivity, safety, physical tolerances, and worker behaviors. During this process, we customize the real and simulated work activities designed to restore physical, behavioral, and vocational functions specific to the job.
This program includes:
- Goal-setting
- Vocational counseling
- Weekly progress reports
- Customized programs
- Certification of completion of program
- Ergonomics training
- Safe body mechanics training
Functional Restoration Program
An FRP is a rehabilitation program for people who suffer from chronic pain and previous methods of treatment have been unsuccessful and/or surgery is not an option. The goal of this program is to increase physical functionality, improve participant’s ability to cope with pain and promote their return to an efficient home or work lifestyle.
These programs include:
- Goal-setting
- Weekly progress reports
- Customized programs
- Certification of completion of program
- Ergonomics training
FUNCTIONAL TESTING
Functional Capacity Evaluations - Functional Capacity Exams measure strength, range of motion and physical capabilities to ensure employees are able to safely meet the physical demands of their job.
Goals of the Empower program
- Increased physical activity and improved physical condition
- Return to the workforce as a capable and efficient employee
- Reduction of mood symptoms related to pain
- Provide understanding of chronic pain and utilization of coping skills
- Increase in valued activity that is restricted by functional limitations
- Decrease medical utilization and minimize the need for pain medication
